Downtime Free For All!

Hey guys - just wanted to let you know that April’s laptop has finally decided to kick the bucket. Her internet access is limited to whatever she can do on her iPod Touch! This means we’ll be a bit light on the posts and MySpace maintenance until she gets a new one.

Meanwhile, if you have some music news you want to share with the rest of our readers, go for it! Stick a note in the comments! And hey, if you’re feeling extra motivated, shoot us an email (us at almostalist dot com) because we’re always looking for guest writers!

Have a great 4th of July Weekend!

To make up for the fact that we did not have any decent photos of Vampire Weekend to show you from the Popped! Music Festival, we’re posting their new music video for “Oxford Comma”. The song is amazing and the video goes along with it pretty well.

Kori Gardner of Mates of State

The Popped! Music Festival is a three day event of pure fun and craziness. Apparently, the point of the festival is to not only provide a wide range of music from a number of breakthrough artists, but to also focus on sustainability and “going green”. The festival this year began with an opening night party on Friday night (June 20) at the Trocadero, with White T’s & White Belts and a special performance by Slick Rick. The second day of the festival (June 21), which was held at Drexel University (33rd and Market St.), had a number of your favorite breakthrough bands on the lineup.

Despite the blazing hot heat and the sweaty crowd, everyone seemed to have an amazing time. Gogol Bordello was of course insane and full of energy, and Dan Deacon brought the best and biggest dance party ever. The only downfall to the show was putting The Ting Tings first and Vampire Weekend last–although I know they did that so you would be obligated to stay at the show all day. Nevertheless, The Ting Tings and Vampire Weekend were amazing, and it’s pretty obvious why they’re two of the biggest breakthrough bands on the scene right now.

We have pictures for those of you who couldn’t make it out (or have no way of getting to Philly). Unfortunately, you’re only going to get one photo of Vampire Weekend and Mates of State, seeing as my camera simultaneously ran out of battery and free space. But hey, there were so many other amazing bands on the lineup that they will make up for that.

Earlier this year, we informed you guys that the “new” Girl Talk album that was floating around the web was actually a fake. Supposedly the fake album was really good, but let’s be honest–there’s only one Girl Talk and he knows how to do things right.
