Currently, there are a number of bands that have topped the charts who we would have featured when they were still Almost A-List material (if only we had the site back then)! My personal favorite would be Plain White T’s. I remember rocking out to these guys back in high school and following them around the Bay Area whenever they came to visit. It’s amazing to see how far these guys have come! From performing on one of the smaller stages at Warped Tour, to being featured on the television show Greek, it’s been quite a ride for these five guys, but they deserve every second of it!
So we want to know–who is your favorite band or artist that has gone mainstream?

My Chemical Romance, but I do not go outdoors and admit this anymore. I think they have forgotten where they have come from.

lol My Chemical Romance is definitely a good example of a band gone mainstream. I remember the summer they started making their way on the purevolume charts…I think it was the same summer that My American Heart and Hellogoodbye made those charts as well–so circa 2004? I’m not certain though. Case in point, it’s always amazing to see bands like them go from just some local band to something more amazing.
Oh, and Linkin Park (who MCR have toured with) is another good example of a band that has blown up phenomenally. They started out pre-MySpace/purevolume era by logging on to chatrooms and messageboards and promoting their band that way (as well as doing some tours and street team promotion). It makes me think that bands should revert back to that method of promotion as opposed to doing the whole MySpace thing…
