My personal essay on the common application (when applying to colleges) was about how I secretly wanted to be a rockstar. The irony was that I was applying to be a biology major and I wrote all my short answers about my “ambition” to be a doctor.
I like to think I’m not the only one that has these desires. There’s a part of all of us that wants to be something else, and for many music lovers, we’d like to be musicians (regardless of whether we can actually play an instrument, spit out some verses, or even have the stage presence to entertain people).
So…
If you were a musician, what genre would you want to be in? Who would you want to tour with? How famous would you want to get? I know I’m not the only one that has given this some thought, so let us know what you would do as a musician!

I’m glad that I’m not the only one who has had those secret desires. It’s a shame that I don’t have the skills to do such things. If I did, I would probably end up being an indie rock artist. Either that or I’d secretly want to be a punk rock chick.
I would tour with a bunch of powerpop/pop punk bands and we’d have a good old time.

Hi Erica–A punk rock chick would definitely be amazing! I used to aspire to be one when I was first learning guitar…I’m not quite sure what happened to that idea. I think I’d rather be more along the lines of an Agent M than a Brody Dalle or Joan Jett (although those ladies are fierce too). :]

I think it depends on my mood, but I’d either go for a world-famous classical violinist or pianist or the complete opposite: a powerpop girl band where I’d play either guitar or drums.
I’d like to headline a tour, OBVIOUSLY

Actually..I take that back. I think instead of powerpop, I’d go for singer/songwriter and play the guitar. Yeah. That or the violin/piano. Or all of em.

I’d want to be a cheesy 80’s rocker / pop singer. I’d rock the giant hair, spandex…everything. Oh man. I have to go blast some Def Leppard right now.

If I were to be a musician, I think I’d go somewhere in the Elton John genre. Fabulously loud. But I would still be cool and play my piano like it’s no ones business.
So, tell me why am I going into the medical profession? Oh yeah, I can’t sing to save my life. har.
Goodbye Norrrmmmaaa Jean.
Ah. Fabulous.

I would love to just play some back-up instrument for Billy Talent. I wouldn’t want to replace anyone in the band or change anything that they do, but would love to be onstage and be part of the energy. Best concert I’ve ever gone to.
