When I got word that Driver F had released a new album entitled Chase the White Whale, I’ll admit that it didn’t strike me as the most amazing news I had heard that day. I had listened to some of their stuff prior to their new album, and honestly, it was just alright. They had always struck me as your typical band that was just starting out—they made some decent songs and seemed to have the passion for what they were doing, but there was still something missing from their songs that would give them that extra edge.

I have no idea what happened between the time when those songs were released and the making of Chase the White Whale, but that change was definitely epic!

Chase the White Whale is an album that sounds like it came from a band that has been making hit pop/alternative records for years. It is truly amazing how these guys have grown from those “just alright” songs that I had heard before, to these professional and catchy tracks that are on their new record. I listen to this record and not only do I feel like I’m listening to everyone’s new favorite band, but I wonder—why the heck haven’t these guys been signed yet?!

Each song on Chase the White Whale is unique and offers its own special touch to the record. What’s best about this album is that you don’t need to be “in the mood” to listen to it. Each track is golden and has such a genuine quality—you can play it at any moment and start singing along. I especially like how this album blends the sweetest pop with the best hint of ska. It’s so rare to find ska and pop blended so wonderfully together, and that just makes me fall that much more in love with Chase the White Whale.

The opening track on the record, “Two Words, Mr. President: Plausible Deniability”, is definitely one of my favorites. You can’t help but smile and groove along as this song brings the energy, happiness, and catchiness that you have always admired in a band. “At Least We Are Civilized” is a beautiful acoustic track and the vocals on “Temple of Doom” weave together so perfectly. I am truly impressed with how far these guys have come and I am still in awe at the fact that their sound has matured into something so amazing!

Case in point, Driver F’s new album Chase the White Whale will be one of your favorite albums. Honestly, it doesn’t even matter if you have never heard this band or if you cringe at the thought that “ska” and pop/alternative could go well together. This band has such an impeccable level of talent and professionalism, that I know they’re destined for the respect, recognition, and love they deserve.
