Kori Gardner of Mates of State

The Popped! Music Festival is a three day event of pure fun and craziness. Apparently, the point of the festival is to not only provide a wide range of music from a number of breakthrough artists, but to also focus on sustainability and “going green”. The festival this year began with an opening night party on Friday night (June 20) at the Trocadero, with White T’s & White Belts and a special performance by Slick Rick. The second day of the festival (June 21), which was held at Drexel University (33rd and Market St.), had a number of your favorite breakthrough bands on the lineup.

Despite the blazing hot heat and the sweaty crowd, everyone seemed to have an amazing time. Gogol Bordello was of course insane and full of energy, and Dan Deacon brought the best and biggest dance party ever. The only downfall to the show was putting The Ting Tings first and Vampire Weekend last–although I know they did that so you would be obligated to stay at the show all day. Nevertheless, The Ting Tings and Vampire Weekend were amazing, and it’s pretty obvious why they’re two of the biggest breakthrough bands on the scene right now.

We have pictures for those of you who couldn’t make it out (or have no way of getting to Philly). Unfortunately, you’re only going to get one photo of Vampire Weekend and Mates of State, seeing as my camera simultaneously ran out of battery and free space. But hey, there were so many other amazing bands on the lineup that they will make up for that.

Popped was an absolute blast I agree. I was SO impressed with Gorgol Bordello (but I wasn’t really expecting anything else I suppose), and I agree that Vampire Weekend shouldn’t have been last!

I really love the concept behind this blog too =o) !
